Seceda

Tue 16/9/25

It was cloudy and raining when we woke up this morning. The past 2 days had been clear and sunny which was great for hiking to the Giesler Odle mountains yesterday. After having breakfast of fried rice and packing sandwiches for lunch picnic, it was still raining at 8am. I checked the Seceda live webcam, but is was so cloudy with no visibility.

So we waited some more at the apartment while checking the live webcam every 30 minutes for updates. At 9am, it was still cloudy, so we went to the groceries shop nearby to buy some supplies while waiting for the weather to clear up.

Finally at 10am, the live webcam showed clear views of Seceda, so we then drove to the parking lot of the Seceda cable car, about 40 minutes away from our apartment. Thankfully, it was not peak season, so we still managed to get a parking spot at 11am. The parking at Seceda cable car costs EUR 2.8 per hour. While the Seceda cable car costs EUR 52 per person for a return trip. You could also buy a one way cable car trip and hike down, but we didn't think we had enough time since we started out late.

We had to take 2 rides to the peak. The first ride was from Ortisei to Funes, with 4 persons per cable car, seated. While the second ride was from Funes to Seceda, standing only with about 60 pax capacity, which lifted us up almost vertically.

From the cable car station, we walked for about 15 mins uphill to the cross to get to the Seceda ridgeline viewpoint. It was such a majestic view. According to my geologist friend, this is a clastic formation, rather than carbonate, unlike the rest of the Dolomites.

We then sat at a bench to have our packed sandwich and hot peppermint tea while enjoying the views. After snacking, we continued walking around Seceda for about an hour before taking back the cable car to the parking. We arrived back at the parking lot at 1.30pm

We didn't have any further plans today so we returned back to the apartment and just relaxed. We also went to the bakery that we we were eyeing on the day of arrival and bought some croissant and apple strudel to enjoy at tea time at our apartment balcony.

Tonight we had another last round of pan seared salmon and rice for dinner and called it a day.
