KUL-SJJ

Fri 13/9/24

We would be taking a 7 day road trip, starting from Sarajevo to Travnik, Kulen-Vakuf, Jajce, Mostar and back to Sarajevo. This would be our second trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina after the first one in Sep 2017. For this trip, we booked our tickets through Qatar Airways, part of the OneWorld alliance. In this trip, we transited at Doha (DOH)  before arriving to Almaty (ALA), Kazakhstan. We bought our ticket about a month before the departure date. Our return trip ticket cost RM 3961 per person.

It was busy at KLIA during the school holiday week. There was heavy traffic to KLIA too, and we arrived after 2 hours via Grab (it would take only 45 minutes in normal circumstances). Lesson learnt was to check the traffic condition prior to booking Grab. We could have opted for the ERL train to KLIA instead.

We utilised our MH's Enrich and QR's Privilege Club membership to access MH's Golden Lounge while waiting for our flight. This time around we would be transiting via Changi airport, Singapore (SIN) towards Doha (DOH) and onwards to Sarajevo (SJJ). Since we booked our flight quite late, the KUL-DOH sector was already fully booked for the Economy Classic class.

Our flight from KUL to SIN departed on time at 23.05. For the short 1 hour flight, we were served with juice and a packet of peanuts. At SIN, we landed at Terminal 2 and then took the train to change to Terminal 1 for our flight to Doha. While waiting for our flight, we accessed the SATS lounge at Terminal 1 using our MH's Enrich and QR's Privilege Club membership.

At the boarding gate, we were called to skip the queue since our boarding pass were printed at KUL and needed to be re-checked. Our flight from SIN to DOH departed on time at 0245 to a full capacity plane. We both chose the omelette with creamed spinach for breakfast.  Since I am a Gold member of Qatar Airways' Privilege Club, the stewardess approached me prior to take off to ask for my choice of meal so Gold members are guaranteed their meal option of choice.

We only had 1 hour 30 minutes of transit time so there was not enough time to enjoy the lounge at Doha unfortunately. The next sector from DOH to SJJ both of us had the barbecue beef with garlic mashed potato. This sector only took 5 hours 20 minutes. The flight had a 3-3 seat configuration and I chose the window seat on the left side (port).

We landed at SJJ (Sarajevo airport) on time at 11.35 am the next day, 14 Sep.  It was cold and drizzling when we arrived. We then exchanged 400 EUR (1 EUR= 4.82 MYR) to 774.50 BAM at the airport by cash.

We bought a local bhtelcom SIM card Tourist 1 for BAM 20 for 20GB and 10 days with call at the airport.  We then walked to the Sixt counter outside the airport to pick up our rental car.  Our car was a red Dacia Sandero with automatic transmission, Ron 95 petrol and cost RM 2272 for 7 days with full coverage . The highway in Bosnia and Herzegovina did not have automatic tolls so we took the ticket and paid by card for toll charges.
