Snæfellsnes Peninsular

Fri 28/10/22

From Keflavik airport, we headed to Snaefellness peninsular, first heading to Arnarstapi cliff (235km, 3h). Once at the peninsular, there were a few nice view points, so we stopped by to take pictures. We used the offline map Maps.me which was very useful as it provided view point stops along the road, hiking routes, petrol (bensin)stations, grocery stores and of course, places of attraction. We stopped at Bjarnarfoss waterfall and made a short climb.

Next we went to Arnarstapi cliff and Gatklettur (Hellnar) arch by the coastline. Arnarstapi used to be a fishing village. The parking is free and there is no entrance fee. After taking pictures, we then made our way to the town of Stykkisholmur where our accommodation for the next 2 nights would be.  But, before that, a stop to Bonus was necessary to buy groceries (olive oil, salmon, salad, cheese, tomato, eggs, bread) for cooking our meals, and the petrol station (ISK 317 per liter or RM 10 per liter - very expensive!)

We settled in at our little cottage Helgafell (EUR 128 or RM611 per night, booked by Booking.com) by 4.30pm, had a nice deserving shower (the last shower was more than 24 hours ago!) and cooked a nice dinner. Our cottage had cable TV and we even watched a live EPL match.

That night, the sky was clear so we managed to view the aurora borealis, although it was not as strong as we hoped. It showed up at around 10pm.
