Helgafell to Husavik

Sun 30/10/22

Our journey today will be the longest of our 12 day trip, covering 420km (more than 6 hours driving with stops). After having our self made breakfast, we started off at 9am when there is glimpse of daylight (sunrise at 9am). The view along the way was stunning so we made a lot of stops. We stopped for toilet break at Nesti N1 Blonduos, about halfway in the journey.

Akureyri view point

At North Iceland's capital Akureyri, we stopped at Bonus to replenish our groceries stock to cook our meals at our next house in Husavik. Just after the Akureryi view point stop is the Vaðlaheiðargöng tunnel which could cut the journey time to Husavik by about 15mins. However, we skipped the tunnel and drove around Víkurskarð mountain (route 83 and 84) since the road condition is still passable. There is a toll which you have to pay to use the tunnel.

We finally arrived at our Skogar Sunset guesthouse (EUR 89 or RM 426 per night booked at Booking.com) at 5pm. We would be staying here for 3 nights. We didn't get to see the aurora tonight, weather was cloudy.
