KUL-CMN
Thurs 1/2/24
We would be taking a 9 day road trip, starting from Casablanca to Marrakech, Ait Benhaddou, Dades Gorge, Merzouga, Toudgha Gorge and Ait Tamelil near the High Atlas. For this trip, we booked our tickets through Qatar Airways, part of the OneWorld alliance. There is no direct flight from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Casablanca , so in this trip, we had to transit at Doha (DOH) before arriving to CMN. We bought our ticket just a week before the departure date. Our return trip ticket cost RM 4079 per person.
It rained heavily and there was heavy traffic to the KUL airport. We utilised Partner In Crime's Enrich privilege to access MH's Golden Lounge while waiting for our flight. Our flight from KUL to DOH departed at 8.00 pm to a full capacity plane. I was served with baked fish with spicy tomato sauce and quinoa salad for dinner, while Partner In Crime chose fusili pasta with tomato sauce. For supper we had Harissa chicken puff.

The next sector from DOH to CMN was operated by Royal Air Maroc. Since this flight was not operated by Qatar Airways, I had called the Help line for assistance to select our seats. Luckily we were given extra legroom seats at the front, and there was no passengers with infants. For the inflight meal, we had beef with mashed potato.

We landed at CMN (Casablanca Mohamed V airport) on time at 7.30am the next day, 2 Feb. However, the immigration process took some time. We then exchanged 135 USD to 1243.54 MAD at the airport and also exchanged 5530 MAD (RM 2671 ) with credit card. However, there was an additional charge of RM 134 for the transaction fee by our local bank, which we were told was free of charge at the airport exchange counter.
We bought a local Moroccan Inwi SIM card for 200 MAD (40 GB and 10 min domestic call. We then proceeded to the Avis counter to pick up our rental car. The pick up point was nearer to Terminal 2 and we walked there. Our car was a black Hyundai Accent with automatic transmission, diesel fuel and cost RM4694 with full coverage . The highway in Morocco did not have automatic tolls so we paid by cash for toll charges. The speed limit on Moroccan highway is 120 km/h
